What are Everyday Carry (EDC) Must-Haves?
One of the aspects of being a Prepping Pro is the fact that you’re prepared and set up for a situation, wherever it takes place. Most of the times, you’re not going to have a bug out bag with you. In fact, a bug out bag should be utilized for exactly that – bugging out. Today we’re going to explore Everyday Carry, otherwise known as EDC – let’s see what are some must-haves.
Please understand that these are suggestions, and what you end up doing will change as a result of the following variables:
- Your budget
- Personal style
- Daily needs
- Environment
A suggestion that we make may not be applicable to you, or legal, if you’re currently living in a Communist place like New York City (our condolences to the patriots in NYC).
This is not meant to be a comprehensive list, just a few items to start the discussion.
EDC Gear Checklist for Starters
- Folding pocket knife – these come in useful on a daily basis. If you’re not carrying a knife with you at all times, we must ask, “Why the heck not?!”
- Personal defense
- Opening items
- Flashlight – Maglite makes a sturdy little light that is made for keyrings. If you can upgrade to a larger tactical flashlight that you can keep in your pocket, even better.
- Wallet or billfold – Something compact that can fit in your pocket that can hold your identification, credit card, and other important documents.
- Compact handgun – concealed carry is a part of our lifestyle here at Prepping Pros, if it’s not, but you want it to be, take a look at Concealed Carry Loophole. Your humble author’s EDC handgun is a Glock 23.
- Watch
- Windproof lighter
- Portable cell phone charger
- Pen – We like tactical pens since they can be used for a lot of different purposes.
- Encrypted portable thumb drive – Carry important documents with you. You’d be surprised how handy these come in.
There are a ton of options on what you can add, especially if you end up getting an EDC pouch to carry additional items with you. You’re going to want to try different options depending upon where you’re heading.
For example, when I head to the beach with my family, I carry a backpack with me, so I’m able to bring more items with me than usual. When I take my wife out to dinner, I have less options, so I stick with a few of the essentials.
What’s on your EDC gear list? What are musts that everyone needs to have as a part of their EDC?
